It appears we are off to a good start for this years ski season. As I sit here writing this message in mid October snow has already fallen in northern Wisconsin. I understand it was the earliest measurable snow fall in history.
The ski Club has been very busy this summer and fall continuing to make trail improvements for everyone from the casual skier to the elite racer and youth team to enjoy. Our hopes are that more families will be able to spend some time in the forest and experience how beautiful the trails can be at night.
You will now be able to ski on 2 KM of light trails this season. We are in the process of completing the lighting project on the Brown trail. This follows the major improvement on the Brown trail that was completed last fall.
Special thanks go out to Oyvind Solvang of Hillcrest Builders who spearheaded this project along with Brian Henriksen, Clark Reinke and Jeff Welsch whom spent numerous hours working on the trail and organizing the fundraising.
The Ski Club Financed a great majority of the lighting project with other funds coming from Sponsors and generous private donations. Thanks to all those whom have contributed to this project.
Our youth Ski Team continues to grow and with the addition of lights we are planning for a very active season for our youth.
Back due to popular demand will be our Ski the Trails backwards/retro Ski day. This is a great opportunity to experience how our trails ski backwards.
We are hoping to make Greenbush Retro Ski day one of the largest Retro Ski Events in Southern Wisconsin. I know many of you still have your original Birke Ski Suit, old wood skies and 3 pin bindings. Come out for some fun and laughs.
Snow shoeing on the many kilometers of trails within Greenbush can be a great way to enjoy the winter and the solitude of the backcountry without having to put those skinny skies on. Our club will be hosting a number of Snow shoe events during the season. We will have snow shoes available for demo and rental through Attitude Sports. Keep an eye on our web site for updated posted events.
We are always looking for new ideas for the club. Plans are in the works for more community events.
Spending time in the forest on a sunny winter day or a crystal clear evening is an experience all of us can appreciate. We are very fortunate to have such a unique resource available to us. Try to bring a friend or family member out this year and share our Nordic heaven.. It may change the way they look at winter.
Best wishes for a safe and healthy winter season in the Kettles.
