ADULT SKI RACE CANCELLED!!!

The Northern Kettle Moraine Nordic Ski Club has cancelled their long running ski race for 2012. The January 15 Nordic Challenge Ski Race may be back in 2013 as part of a regional race series. The high school and grade school race will be held as scheduled on that date. The Ski Club will continue to be active in other events including their annual WinterFest event being held Sunday January 8, the Youth Ski Team and trail grooming at Greenbush according to Ski Club President, Clark Reinke. "We are focusing our energies on programs that bring more people into the sport", said Reinke.

"It's been a wonderful run for over 15 years, but due to lack of volunteers and the desire to grow the sport at the grass-roots level, the Ski Club will concentrate on other projects including a large trail rehabilitation project".

Trail Rehabilitation Project

The NKMN Ski Club has been awarded a matching state/federal Recreation Trails Program grant to rehabilitate approximately 6,000 feet of the Greenbush Trail system. Work on this grant project will begin in August of 2012. The Ski Club will be responsible for coordinating the work effort. Hundreds of Volunteer hours will be needed to complete this very important rehabilitation project which will dramatically enhance the cross country skiing experience at Greenbush.

New Beginner Ski Loop at Greenbush

Many of our members and families have been asking if there is any way to have a real beginner loop at Greenbush.

While we are fortunate to have a very unique geology that created Kettles and Moraines, unfortunately we do not have a great deal of Prairie Fields for an easy flat ski loop.

With the help of the DNR and Jerry Leiterman and in response to your requests we have created a .5 K beginner/flat loop that starts at the shelter.

Although the loop is a bit short, it will provide an opportunity for kids and adults to learn to ski on a flat area near the shelter. After a few loops we hope beginners can gain a bit of confidence and head out on the brown trail for a few ups and downs.

Enjoy!
